Caterpillar is known for producing a variety of wheeled excavator models, each recommended for a specific range of applications. One of its most unique wheeled excavators is the Cat M318D MH wheeled excavator, specifically designed for handling waste in areas with limited space. The configuration included in Cat’s wheeled excavator meets all the requirements needed to provide a safe and efficient operation when working in narrow spaces. Cat M317D MH comes with a fuel-efficient Cat C6.6 ACERT engine, load-sensing hydraulic system, heavy-duty axles, stabilizer configurations and a comfort, spacious cabin.

The undercarriage and the boom have been most greatly modified, while the reliable features included in each Cat wheeled excavator were retained. The heavy-duty undercarriage is strong enough to withstand any ground condition, while easily adapting the structure to the specialized application of the machine. The new, heavy-duty boom is specifically designed for handling waste. Compact and with a shorter pin-to-pin length of up to 5.35m, the new boom of this wheeled excavator has a welded box-section design with thick fabrications to improve the durability.
With the modification of the undercarriage and the boom, Cat’s wheeled excavator is meeting the dimensional requirements in lifting capacity, height and reach, to become one of the top choices for handling waste. The M318D MH has a net engine power of 168 horsepower or 124 kW, which is more than any other waste handler. For other dusty applications or waste transfer stations, there is an optional waste handling package with improved efficiency. This package includes a fully hydraulically and automatically driven fan, that efficiently removes debris from the radiator. The engine of this wheeled excavator is well protected by adding a pre-cleaner that separates and ejects debris from the engine intake air before the air reaches the air cleaner of the machine.
The engine of this wheeled excavator is electronically controlled, just to maintain the consistent engine power in every operation situations, leading to lower operating costs. In combination with the common-rail fuel system of the engine, the operators can achieve huge fuel savings in long term. Additional fuel savings can be achieved by a reversible cooling fan, which is electronically controlled, as well. Also, the cabin is made from heavy materials for increased durability, both interior and exterior.
As with any other Cat wheeled excavator, the M318D MH waste handler is supportive of full range of attachments. Lastly, the overall machine is easy to maintain, as it has easy to access routine maintenance checkpoints.
